Pre Race Penalties

Unlike the last couple of races, no one is having to take a pre-race penalty (FINALLY!), so qualifying positions should be the starting grid!

SUNDAY UPDATE:

  • I spoke too soon, George Russell has to start from the Pit Lane. His car was modified whilst under Parc Fermé conditions and additional Power Unit elements have been used.

Race Updates -

Pre-race weather update (12:00 BST): Completed downpour in Singapore currently! Expect an exciting race to come...

Due to the weather, we have a delayed start. Race set to begin at 14:00 BST.

Lap 1 - Perez gets away spectacularly, overtaking Leclerc to lead the race. Verstappen, who started P8, has dropped to P12.

Lap 4 - Hamilton tells his team in there is "no grip".

Lap 6 - Verstappen is back to P9 and trying to overtake Vettel.

Lap 7 - Contact between Zhou and Latifi. Zhou is out of the race and Latifi heads back towards to pits. Safety Car has been deployed, carrying on the Singapore GP tradition: every race sees a safety car.

Lap 8 - Latifi makes it back to the pits but has to retire the car. After contact on lap 1, Magnussen is given a black and orange flag due to damage on front wing. He pits for new tyres and new nose.

Lap 10 - Safety Car coming in at the end of this lap, the racing can return!

Lap 11 - Racing again and Verstappen makes up two places, overtaking first Vettel and then Gasly. Now at P7.

Lap 21 - Many conversations begin about changing to slick tyres. Most drivers disagreeing saying it's still too wet.

Lap 22 - In his record breaking 350th race start, Alonso reports engine issues and is forced to retire. Virtual Safety Car deployed.

Lap 23 - Russell is the first driver to pit for slicks.

Lap 24 - Russell is struggling initially on the slicks but is staying out for now.

Lap 26 - Albon has bumped the barriers. He's managed to reverse out - but leaves his front wing in the barriers - and he is heading to the pits for repairs. Another Virtual Safety Car released.

Lap 27 - Williams try to get Albon back out but the car has suffered too much damage so a second DNF for Williams and they ae out of the race. Unfortunate for Alex, who only 2 weeks ago underwent surgery and had complications during recovery, but hopefully a better race next week.

Lap 28 - Another DNF! Ocon has engine issues and is forced to retire. The second team completely out, and another Virtual Safety Car is released.

Lap 33 - Hamilton has hit the barriers. He's managed to reverse out but has lost a place to Norris, with Verstappen on his heels.

Lap 35 - Leclerc pits, but it's a slow one at over 5 seconds. Hamilton also pits to replace his front wing. George Russel on slicks is setting the fastest laps.

Lap 36 - Another car in the barriers. Tsunoda hits and is out of the race. Safety Car deployed.

Lap 37 - Ricciardo pits for softs.

Race will now be timed down, rather than running for 61 laps. There's 37 minutes on the clock.

37 mins - Safety Car still on track as the barriers continue to be repaired. Another round of pit stops and all drivers are now on slick tyres.

32 mins - Schumacher suffers puncture after fighting his way to 10th. Has to pit.

29 mins - Schumacher pits and onto softs.

22 mins - Leclerc puts pressure on Perez.

12 mins + 1 lap - Verstappen has overtaken Bottas and into P10. News that once the timer has finished, the drivers will complete an extra lap.

8 mins + 1 lap - Perez is still ahead but will be investigated after the race for an incident with the safety car earlier in the race - perhaps not within the 10 car distance.

Lap 59/61 - Perez wins the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix.

Any Other News

  • It has been confirmed this week that Nicholas Latifi will be leaving Williams at the end of the 2022 season. This now leaves 4 seats unclaimed for next season: Williams, Alpine, AlphaTauri, and Haas.

  • 1/10/22: Lewis Hamilton was assessed by the stewards for wearing a nose piercing whilst racing. This is against the FIA jewellery policy. Hamilton cleared this up during a media session stating that he had a 'letter from the doctor' as it had been 'infected' and so 'has to keep it in'. After viewing the medical records, the stewards decided to take no further action against him personally. However, Mercedes were fined €25,000 (approx £22,000) for inaccurately filling out his self-scrutiny form, as they declared that he was in compliance with the rules.
